Longtime Area Resident, Maggie Wilts, Is Dead

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 22 from the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley for Mrs. Maggie Wilts, 84, who died the previous Friday at the Eldora hospital.

Rev. David Dupee officiated with Mrs. Virgil Heetland as organist and Mrs. Ronald Fisher and Mrs. Leonard Oelmann as vocalists. Flower attendants were Mrs. Susie Fluth and Mrs. Orville Lamb.

Pall bearers were Julius H. Heikens, Julius Heikens, Abe H. Jaspers, Donald Heikens, Otto Wilts and Abe Wilts. Interment was in the church cemetery with Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home of Ackley in charge of arrangements.

Maggie Heikens Wilts, daughter of Julius and Henrietta Meyer Heikens, was born in Grundy county on June 14, 1891. On February 22, 1912, she married Gratus Wilts. They farmed in the Steamboat Rock area for many years and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1962.

Mrs. Wilts was a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Henrietta Wilts, and Mrs. Fannie Ohling, three brothers and one sister.

Those surviving are two sons: Julius Wilts of Eldora and Orville Wilts of rural Steamboat Rock; two brothers, John Heikens and Harry Heikens both of Wellsburg, two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Wulf of Wellsburg and Mrs. Anna Nederhoff of Ackley, and seven grandchildren.
