Sobena Bird Services Held

Sobena Bird, 81, of Sumner, formerly of Grundy Center, died Saturday, February 20, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 25 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Burial was held at the East Friesland Cemetery, Ackley. Committal was at 2:30 at the cemetery.

Memorial may be directed to the Community memorial Hospital or St. John Lutheran Church both in Sumner.

Survivors include 4 sons, Harlan Mudderman of Cyprus, TX, William Bird of Hudson, Ronald Bird of Leroy, MN, Russell Bird of Avondale, AZ; 3 daughters, Minnie Andors of Cedar Falls, Wilma Bahlmann of Waterloo, Donna Schoeberl of Rocky Mount, NC; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Grace Huisman and Vera Lupkes, both of Grundy Center.

Preceding her in death were her 2 husbands, Everett Mudderman and Lyle Bird; 1 sister, Lena Grimmius; 4 brothers, Henry, Richard, John and Albert Raske; and 1 grandson.

Sobena was a former nurse's aide at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital and the Sumner Hospital.
