Funeral Monday At Funeral Home For Tillie Akkerman

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Doyen Funeral Home for Miss Tillie Akkerman, 81, followed by burial in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.

Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated.

Special music for the services was provided by vocalists Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman, and Mrs. Elmer Ruter. Flower attendants were Mrs. Lillian Meester and Mrs. Ella Nichols.

Casket bearers were Richard Claassen, Virgil Claassen, Thomas Claassen, Neal Hoekstra, Thomas Hoekstra and Wendell Hoekstra.

Miss Akkerman passed away at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Countryside Nursing Home in Grundy Center. She had been confined to the nursing home for the past two years. She reached the age of 81 years, 2 months and 15 days.

She was born on a farm in Shiloh Township north of Wellsburg on January 21, 1886, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Akkerman, Sr. (nee Ella Schultz). She attended the rural school in the area. In 1912 she and her family moved to Wellsburg.

She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made Confession of Her Faith on February 20, 1966.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters (Lulu), Mrs. Dick Claassen, (Louise), Mrs. Ben Hoekstra, (Lizzie), Mrs. Otta Tjaden, 1 brother, Thomas Akkerman, Jr.

Those who survive her are one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alma Akkerman of Mason City, and brother-in-law, Otta Tjaden of Wellsburg and several nieces and nephews.
