Rites Friday For Cordelia Vahlsing

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg for Mrs. Cordelia Vahlsing, 79, a resident here for more than 40 years.

Pastor John Zimmermann and Vicar Dennis Grohn officiated the service. Burial was in the Shiloh Township cemetery in Wellsburg.

Casketbearers were Gerald Hildebrand, Dale Hildebrand, Frederick Hildebrand, Gordon Hildebrand, Claude Barth and George Menken. Mrs. Elmer Fritzel and Mrs. Harold Fischer were flower attendants, and Mrs. Gordon Junker was organist.

Mrs. Vahlsing died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad following a lingering illness.

She had been taken to the nursing home on Aug. 12th for confinement. She reached the age of 79 years, 4 months and 28 days.

She was born Cordelia Johanna Fisher on March 25, 1893, in rural Floyd county, near Marble Rock, the daughter of John and Marty (Barth) Fisher. She attended the rural school in the area.

On Sept. 19, 1917 she was united in marriage to Harvey J. Vahlsing at Greene. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Greene moving to Wellsburg in 1929. They were engaged in the restaurant business for many years. Mr. Vahlsing passed away Dec. 30, 1952.

Mrs. Vahlsing was a charter member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Wellsburg and the Ladies Aid Society. She was an active member of the Wellsburg Amvet Auxiliary.

Those who preceded her were her parents, her husband, 1 sister and 1 daughter, Lorraine.

She leaves to mourn her passing: 1 daughter, Eleanor, Mrs. Norman Harms of Wellsburg; 1 son, Don Vahlsing of Stillwater, Minn.; 1 sister (Lillie), Mrs. Henry Hildebrand of Charles City; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.
