Last Rites Held On Tuesday for Weert W. Riekena

Weert W. Riekena, a life long resident of Grundy county, passed away at his home Saturday morning, September 21, 1957 at 4:15 a.m. of heart failure. For the past several years he had been in failing health. He attained the age of 66 years, 9 months and 13 days.

Mr. Riekena was born on December 8, 1890 on a farm northwest of Wellsburg in Shiloh township. He was the son of Weert and Lena Riekena. On May 30, 1918 he was united in marriage with Albertha Ross at Wellsburg. The couple farmed on the same farm where Mr. Riekena was born.

In 1936 Mr. and Mrs. Riekena moved to Wellsburg. Here Mr. Riekena was employed by the Ross Construction Co. for sixteen years.

The deceased was a member of the Second Christian Reformed church and was a regular attendant as long as his health permitted.

Surviving are four children: Evelyn, Mrs. Ebe W. Harms of Ackley, Arlene, Mrs. Raymond Junker of Aplington; Willard at home and Gladyce, Mrs. Elmer Korte of Leon; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Dick W. Riekena of Wellsburg; 3 sisters, Mr. Freda Williams and Mrs. G. H. Geerdes of Wellsburg and Mrs. Grace Lillibridge of Rockwell.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son and a daughter in infancy, and his wife on July 25, 1953.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 1957 at 12:30 p.m. at the John Doyen home and later at the Second Christian Reformed church. Rev. Carl Toeset officiated at the services.

Music was furnished by a ladies quartet, Mrs. Harold Okones, Mrs. Ivan Slifer, Mrs. Wilbur Knock and Mrs. Virgil Claassen accompanied by Mrs. Carl Toeset. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Richard Ross and Mrs. Lee Bakker.

Pall bearers were Harold Geerdes, August Schaefer, Harry Williams, Raymond Riebkes, Jack Fraseur and John Krull. Interment was made in the Shiloh cemetery at Wellsburg.
