Mrs. Mary Riekena Funeral On Friday

Mrs. Mary Riekena passed away at the Grundy County Memorial hospital at Grundy Center in the forenoon of Tuesday, December 6, 1966 where she had been a patient since the previous Saturday. She had reached the age of 79 years and 3 months.

Mrs. Riekena was born Mary Ross, the daughter of Jibbe and Neske Wessels Ross in Hardin County, Iowa on September 6, 1887. She received her education in rural schools of Grundy County, Iowa.

On March 6, 1909 she was united in marriage with Evert J. Riekena. They lived first at Monroe, South Dakota. In 1910 they moved to a farm west of Wellsburg. In 1943 they moved to Wellsburg.

Mrs. Riekena was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made confession of her faith on August 4, 1958. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.

Those who preceded her in death were her husband in 1952, a son Emery in 1963, two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, four sisters and two brothers.

Those who mourn her passing are 1 son, John E. Riekena, of Wellsburg; 2 daughters, Jeanette, Mrs. Melvin Tack of Holland; Diana, Mrs. Fred Walbaum of Grundy Center, a sister, Mrs. Nettie Meyer of Wellsburg; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, December 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the family home and later at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Two duet numbers were sung by Mrs. Douglas Geerdes and Mrs. Robert Valentine accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen. Mrs. C. W. Ross and Mrs. Herman DeVries were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Royce Tack, Leland Tack, Eldon Walbaum, Harlyn Riekena, Larry Riekena and Lowell Riekena. Edward Riekena of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Dennis Tack of Los Angeles, California were honorary pall bearers.

Interment was made in the Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg.
