Ubbe Peters Died Tuesday, Funeral On Friday

Funeral services for Ubbe Peters were held on Friday afternoon, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. Pastor Richard Johnson was clergyman. Mrs. Duane Babcock and Mrs. Herman Primus sang two duet numbers accompanied by Mrs. George Potgeter. Mrs. Harry Luiken was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Julia Johnson and Mrs. Geo. Potgeter. Pall bearers were Ray L. Allison, Earl Stupp, Harold Luiken, Rex Heard, Daniel Lahm and George Hemmen. Honorary pall bearers were Don Finger, John Burns, Robert R. Ruppelt, George Potgeter, Russell Holmes, Raymond Karsjens, Ben Harms, Jacob Veld, Henry A. Eckhoff and Don M. Rhoads. Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery at Wellsburg.

Ubbe Peters passed away around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 at the Eldora Community Hospital in Eldora following a lingering illness. He had entered the hospital for treatment on July 6th. He reached the age of 85 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Ubbe was born on a farm in Grundy county northeast of Wellsburg on Nov. 1, 1885, the son of Jacob and Gepka (Beving) Peters. He attended the rural school in the area. On November 5, 1915, he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Anderson at Kimbrae, Minn. Following their marriage they lived in Kimbrae for 3 years after which they moved to a farm near Wellsburg. In 1938 they moved to Steamboat Rock where they were engaged in the restaurant business until 1956. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in November of 1965, with their family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters, Ruby and Viola, four brothers and 2 sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Augusta; one daughter, Anna Marie, Mrs. Harry Pixler of Steamboat Rock; one brother, Anno Peters of Parkersbrug; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
