Ella Nichols, Lifelong Area Resident, Dead

Mrs. Ella Nichols passed away early Tuesday morning, April 20 at her apartment at Friendship Manor in Wellsburg, due to an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 88 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Graveside services were held on Friday, April 23, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, April 27, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Rev. John H. Elenbaas officiated at the services. Two hymns were sung by the congregation. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist.

Ella was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, southwest of Wellsburg on July 11, 1893, the daughter of Weibe A. and Grietje (Geerdes) Meyer. She received her education in the Pine Creek No. 9 rural school in the area.

On December 25, 1913, she was married to Charles Ray Nichols in Eldora. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg and then moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Her husband passed away on March 5, 1938.

Mrs. Nichols was a charter member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of faith on October 9, 1919. She was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, having taught continuously from 1932 to 1972. She was 79 years old when she quit teaching Sunday School.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Neessen; two brothers, George and Albert Meyer.

Survivors include: three sons and one daughter, Russell Nichols of Santa Ana, California; Dale Nichols of Altoona; Mrs. Wendell (Edith) Lindaman of rural Grundy Center, Clarence Nichols of Santa Ana, California; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
