Funeral Monday for Mrs. D. Groninga

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Durwood Groninga on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.

Rev. Paul Pfaltzgraff was officiating clergyman. Miss Connie Hook was soloist who sang two numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Edward Sietsema, organist. The flower attendants were Mrs. Elmer Fritzel and Mrs. Tielko H. Bunger.

Pall bearers were Herman Sietsema, Edward Sietsema, George Sietsema, Harm Aukes, Elmer Fritzel and Edwin Peters.

Interment was made in Shiloh Cemetery.

Mrs. Durwood H. Groninga passed away on Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, at the Midwest City Memorial Hospital in Midwest City, Okla., following surgery. She had been taken to the hospital on Sept. 13th for treatment. She reached the age of 44 years, 2 months and 5 days.

She was born Virginia Grace Rubendall on July 18, 1926, in Eldora, the daughter to Clinton and Daisy Mae (Buck) Rubendall. She attended the Eldora Public School. On Dec. 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Durwood H. Groninga at Whiting, Ind. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Grundy county, northeast of Wellsburg, for a short time, prior to his entering the armed forces in 1943. Since 1962 they have lived in Oklahoma City, Okla. This union was blessed with a son, Stephen, and a daughter, Rebecca. They were privileged to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Dec. 6, 1967. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, a son Stephen Groninga stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Rebecca, at home; 1 granddaughter, Stephanie Jan Groninga; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Rubendall of Mason City; 2 sisters: (Betty) Mrs. Henry Sents of Wellsburg; (Nancy), Mrs. Jerry Fleener of Highland, Ind.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
