Services Held For Mrs. Grace Heikens Friday, Aug. 9th

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Heikens were held on Friday afternoon, Aug. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Edward Jurgens of Allison was officiating pastor. Miss Luella Beving and Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman sang two duet numbers accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Harley Freese and Mrs. George Schmidt. Pall bearers were Julius Wilts, Abe Wilts, Abe H. Jaspers, Evert Heikens, Julius H. Heikens and Donald Heikens. Interment was made in the First Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Heikens passed away around 10:30 Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 87 years, 11 months and 5 days. She had made her home in Ackley since November of 1973.

She was born on a farm in Hardin county on Sept. 1, 1886, the daughter of Otto and Fentje (Harms) Wilts. She attended the rural school in the area. On March 4, 1909, she was united in marriage to Julius J. Heikens. They lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg following their marriage. In 1917, they moved to Wellsburg. Mr. Heikens passed away in 1918.

She was a long time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church of Wellsburg and a member of the Ladies' Guild. She was also a long time member of the Ashing-Jaspers American Legion Auxiliary of Wellsburg.

Those who preceded her in death were: her parents, her husband, one daughter in infancy, 1 granddaughter, four brothers, 1 sister and 1 half-sister.

She leaves to mourn her passing: one son, Julius J. Heikens of Ackley; one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Fern) Hook of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
