Peter Ruter Was Buried On Tuesday

Passed Away After A Two Week Illness At His Country Home Southwest Of Wellsburg

Was 64 Years Of Age

Had Lived All His Life In Shiloh Township And Will Be Sadly Missed In Community

Funeral services for Peter H. Ruter, aged 64, who died at his home four miles southwest of Wellsburg, Saturday afternoon, after an illness of two weeks, were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the First Christian Reformed church, west of Wellsburg, with the pastor, Rev. Voskuil, in charge of the ceremonies.

Mr. Ruter was a life-time resident of this vicinity, and through his long and industrious life here had gained the respect and esteem of all who knew him. The cause of death was pneumonia, with complications.

The pall bearers were his nephews: Aldrich Bunger, Eike Ruter, Harry Eekhoff, Emery Riekena, Lawrence Ackerman, Lewis Ackerman.

Peter H. Ruter was born April 15, 1874, in Shiloh township, Grundy county, Iowa. He passed away on July 2, 1938, after an illness of two weeks, with pneumonia, aged 64 years, 2 months and 17 days.

On January 16, 1902, he was joined in holy wedlock with Grace Ross of Renville, Minn. They established their home on a farm in Shiloh township, where in the providence of God they shared and experienced together life's joys and sorrows for 36 years.

Besides the sorrow-stricken wife, he leaves to mourn the following: 4 children, Jessie, James of Ackley, Herman and Nettie.

He is the first one to be called away of a family of ten children: 6 sisters and 3 brothers survive him: Mrs. Lambert Bunger, Mrs. Boyd Eckhoff, Helen Ruter of Wellsburg, Mrs. Peter H. Eekhoff of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Mrs. Gust Sanders of West Bend, Mrs. Boyd Frieborg of Renville, Minn.

The brothers are John Ruter of Steamboat Rock, Eike of Wellsburg, and Ben Ruter of Kanawha, Iowa, and also a large circle of relatives and friends.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Heye J. Ross and son Roger, Meint Freiborg, Herman Freiborg, Mrs. Alfred Ahrenolz, all of Renville, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Simon Folkerts of Raymond, Minn.; Mrs. Etta Engelkes of Britton, South Dakota; Mrs. Barney Andrewsen, Storm Lake, Ia.; Ben Ruter and daughter Bertha and son Harold, Mr. and Mrs. George Roskamp, Mr. and Mrs. Hammond Ruter, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ruter, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Ruter, Mr. and Mrs. Eiko Ruter, Mr. and Mrs. John Ruter, Mr. and Mrs. Wiert Williamson of Kanawha, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sanders, Mrs. Bennie Banwort, of West Bend, Iowa.

Peter H. Ruter Dies Saturday; Was Sick 2 Weeks

Peter H. Ruter died about noon last Saturday at his home 4 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg following an illness of two weeks with pleurisy and pneumonia. He was 62 years old. He was born in Shiloh township and resided here all of his life.

Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock on Tuesday and later at the First Christian Reformed church west of Wellsburg, of which he had been a lifelong member. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Louis Voskuil. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mr. Ruter was widely known throughout the northwest portion of the county. He came from one of Grundy county's pioneer families. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hemmo Ruter who were among the early residents of Shiloh township. The Ruter family were all good farmers and they did much to change this land for a prairie 70 years ago to the rich farming community which it now is. He was one of a large family of four sons and five daughters and was the first among the group to be called.

Surviving are the wife, two sons and two daughters. The sons are James, who is married and is farming in German township, Herman, Jessie and Nettie who are at home.

The surviving brothers are Ike, John and Benjamin. The sisters are Mrs. Boyo Eekhoff, Mrs. L. C. Bunger, Mrs. Peter Eekhoff, Mrs. J. Sanders, Mrs. B. Fretborg, Renville, Minn., and Helen Ruter.
