Funeral Mon. For Mrs. O. Mennenga At W'burg Church
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Edward Mennenga home and at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed church for Mrs. Frederika Mennenga.
Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman.
Mrs. Mennenga passed away around 5 o'clock Saturday morning at the Eldora Memorial hospital due to carcinoma. She had been a patient since June 4th.
Mrs. Mennenga was born Frederika Riekena on February 26, 1882, on a farm in Shiloh township 4 1/2 miles northwest of Wellsburg. She reached the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 19 days. She was the daughter of Evert and Gertie Riekena. She received her education in the Shiloh No. 4 rural school.
She attended the First Christian Reformed church up to the time she moved to Steamboat Rock, after which she attended the First Presbyterian Church.
On March 21, 1906, she was united in marriage to Obbo Mennenga. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm 4 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg. In 1950 they retired and moved to Steamboat Rock.
Music was furnished by a men's quartet composed of Willis Baker, Alfred Eiten, Harvey Eiten and Claus G. Primus. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.
Flower attendants were Mrs. Carl Frerichs and Mrs. Gerald Bakker. Pall bearers were Evert Bleeker, Fred Luppen, Jans Mennenga, Clarence Meyer, Edward Meyer, Harley Meyer.
Those preceding her in death were her parents, her husband who passed away in 1951, and her son-in-law Albert H. Kruse, who passed away in 1958.
Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mrs. Johanna Kruse, her son Edward, one sister, Mrs. Siebe H. Meyer, all of Steamboat Rock, three grandchildren, Gary Mennenga, of Mesa, Arizona; Karen, Mrs. Robert Ammann of Osage; Curtis Kruse of Steamboat Rock and one great-grandson, Scott Ammann and a host of other relatives and friends.
