Funeral Services For Will W. Ross Held Friday

Funeral services for Will W. Ross were held on Friday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg. Clergymen were Pastor John Zimmerman and Vicar Dennis Grohn. Mrs.Norman Harms was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Heinrich and Mrs. Lowell Riekena. Pall bearers were Norman Harms, Ernest deNeui, Dick deNeui, Don Gummert, Edwin Peters and George Sietsema. Gordon Junker, Norman Homeyer and John Heinrich were honorary pallbearers.

Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery, Wellsburg.

Will W. Ross passed away shortly after 2:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 1, at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital (East) in Marshalltown due to complications following surgery performed on Monday, April 30. He had been taken to the hospital on Sunday, April 29. He reached the age of 79 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Will was born on a farm in Shiloh township northwest of Wellsburg on July 4, 1893, the son of William A. and Geska (Roalfs) Ross. He attended the rural school in the area. On March 19, 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Wulf at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Parsonage near Wellsburg, by the Rev. C. Heinrich. Following their marriage they made their home on the Ross family farm, northwest of Wellsburg. In 1948 they moved to a farm near Holland. In the fall of 1959, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg.

He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Wellsburg and was a member of the Church Men's Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert; one sister, Greitje, Mrs. Peter B. Riekena; four brothers, Albert W., Rieke W., Claus W., Henry W., and a brother and sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Anna, three daughters and one son, Mrs. Lois Kerns of Des Moines; (Darlene) Mrs. Arley Blankenburg of Marion; Kenneth Ross of Sutherland; (Thlema) Mrs. Robert Voetburg of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren; one sister (Tadjie), Mrs. Dick Huisman, Sr. of Wellsburg; one brother, John W. Ross of Wellsburg and a host of other relatives and friends.
