Family Mourns Sudden Death Of Emil Miller

Emil Miller passed away at 8:45 Sunday morning, at University Hospitals in Iowa City due to heart failure.

He had been taken there the day before for treatment. He reached the age of 82 years, 9 months and 13 days.

He was born on a farm in German Township near Cleves, on August 29, 1894, the son of Heiko J. and Kathryn (Agena) Miller, and attended the rural school in the area.

He was united in marriage to Ella Kruse on January 28, 1914.

Following their marriage they lived on a farm in German Township, then on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township and in 1931 moved to an acreage in German Township where he was employed as a Grundy County Road Patrolman for the German Township area.

In 1956, they retired and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

Emil was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by letter of transfer on November 1, 1957, from the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, a sister in infancy, 1 brother, Claus Miller and 2 grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife, Ella, 3 daughters and 2 sons, Arthur H. Miller of Ackley; (Leola), Mrs. Jacob Abels of Holland; (K. Muriel), Mrs. Raymond DeVries of Ackley; Donald Miller of Shenandoah; (Miriam), Mrs. Kampe E. Scholte of Ackley; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and 2 sisters, Jacob H. Miller of Reinbeck; Andrew Miller of Ackley; Mrs. Ellen Ulfers of Ackley; David Miller of Wellsburg; George Miller of Ackley; Miss Anna Miller of New Hampton; Herman Miller of North Hollywood, California and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. Kenneth Vande Griend officiated the service Wednesday at 1:30 in the Second Christian Reformed Church.

Special music for the service was provided by soloist Gordon Hippen and organist Mrs. Clarence Hippen. Flower attendants were Mrs. George Sietsema and Mrs. Gladys Eckhoff.

Casket bearers were Keith DeVries, J. Arthur Abels, Michael Ubben, Scott Miller, Michael Miller and Dan Miller.

Interment was in the Shiloh cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
