Elwin Booster Harms, 90, of Wellsburg, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit of natural causes on Saturday, December 2, 2000.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, Wellsburg. Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiated. Burial followed at the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Elwin was born June 23, 1910, in Shiloh Township, rural Wellsburg, the son of Wesley and Grace (Jaspers) Harms. He attended Shiloh #9 country school and Wellsburg High School. Elwin married Helen Irene Newell on November 29, 1933, in Northwood. Helen preceded him in death on March 1, 1995.

Elwin was a farmer and also worked as a general contractor. He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church for 50 years where he had been a past Superintendent of the Sunday School and a past Junior Youth Leader. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Elwin loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Royce (Anna) Harms of Wellsburg and Marvin (Nedra) Harms of Ames; one daughter, Vivian (Ted) Huisman of Newton; 13 grandchildren, Pam Luwe, David Harms, Michelle McMullen, Daniel Harms, Melissa Aldrich, Sandra Rund, Patricia Houser, Kerin Downs, Mark Huisman, Chad Huisman, Lee Harms, Scott Harms and Cory Harms; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents; three brothers, Eilert, Harm and George; and one sister, Grace.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
