Alvin I. Harms, 87, of Wellsburg, passed away October 23 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown.
Funeral services were October 26 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg. Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Alvin was born January 12, 1914 in rural Wellsburg the son of Ibeling and Minnie (Wiegman) Harms. On September 3, 1941, Alvin was united in marriage to Theresa Meyer in Lancaster, MO. Alvin and Theresa moved to a farm in rural Wellsburg and lived and farmed there for 20 years. In 1962 they moved into Wellsburg where Alvin was engaged in carpentry work.
He had been a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg.
Survivors include his wife Theresa Harms of Wellsburg; a daughter, Constance VanHeiden and her husband Jerald of Kinsman, IL; three grandchildren, Jeffrey VanHeiden and his wife Kelly of Sheridan,IL, Christine VanHeiden of Wheaton, IL and Janelle VanHeiden of Morris, IL; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob and Jeremy VanHeiden; one sister, Vera DeNeui of Wellsburg; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Harms of Wellsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Martha Ascher and Lizzie DeNeui; and one brother, Norman Harms.
