Services Held For Gertrude de Neui

Gertrude de Neui, 89, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, January 8, 1996 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 12, 1996, at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Doug Holmes officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Pallbearers were Alvin Harms, Harold Jaspers, Boyd Meyer, Harm Meyer, Harvin Meyer, and Larry Meyer.

A memorial fund has been established.

Gertrude was born on January 29, 1906, the daughter of Siebe and Nantje (Riekena) Meyer in Grundy County, Iowa. She taught country school in Grundy County and then worked for Claus Ross as a secretary in Wellsburg. She was united in marriage with James de Neui on November 28, 1929, in Nashua, Iowa.

They farmed east of Wellsburg until 1956 when they moved into their new home in Wellsburg. After her husband's death, she worked for Plastronics in Grundy Center for ten years.

Gertrude was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church, the helping hands and willing workers in Wellsburg, and she was very active in AMVETS Auxiliary, serving as past president.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 1960; three brothers; Clarence, Edward, and Harley; two sisters, Freda Boelman and Claaska Meyer; one son-in-law; Gordon Geerdes; one daughter-in-law; Evelyn Aukes de Neui; and two great-grandchildren; Lisa Shipp and Chris Kielman.

Survivors include her daughter, Stella Geerdes of Steamboat Rock; son, Keith and wife Donna of Des Moines; step-son, Milton de Neui of Clarksville; four sisters; Minnie Harlan of Wellsburg, Eva Widmann of Mesa, Arizona, Clareen Baehr and husband Robert of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Donna Meyer of Wellsburg; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the professional arrangements.
