Violet Heerkes Services Held

Mrs. Rudolf (Violet) Heerkes, age 74, passed away at 8:27 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1982 at Beverly Manor Convalescent Center, Grundy Center. She was formerly of Holland.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with Rev. Jerry Van Curler officiating.

Mrs. Tom Simms sang "God Will Take Care Of You" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." She was accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Hinders, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casketbearers were Alvin Miller, Ray Wilson, James Syhlman, Roger Muller, Rick Mast and Wendel Muller. Harry Ascher and John Seehusen served as ushers. Mrs. Margaret Meyer and Mrs. Tena Franken were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

She was born on November 22, 1907 on a farm west of Holland. She attained the age of 74 years, 5 months and 22 days. She was the daughter of Sievert and Reka Eckhoff Muller.

On February 21, 1929 at Colfax Center Presbyterian church, she was united in marriage to Rudolf Heerkes by Rev. Drake. After their marriage they farmed in Grundy Center and Holland areas and in 1972 they moved and made their home in Holland and she became a resident of Beverly Manor on May 7, 1982. She was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, Kenneth Lee, and two brothers, Melvin and Ben.

Mrs. Heerkes is survived by her husband, Rudolf, of Holland; one son, Vernon Heerkes of Dike; three daughters, Mrs. Wesley (Lois) Miller of rural Dike; Mrs. James (Clarice) Bulton of Callao, MO.; and Mrs. Leroy (Marlene) Kuper of rural Ackley; ten grandchildren; four brothers, Eilert Miller, Hans Muller, Sievert Muller and Raymond Muller, all of Grundy Center; and six sisters, Mrs. Ella Kuper of Sioux Falls, SD; Mrs. John (Tena) Raske, Mrs. Jennie Tjepkes, Mrs. Kate Syhlman, Mrs. Wilbert (Anna) Wilson and Mrs. Loyd (Frieda) Mast, all of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
