Gertrude Harberts Lifelong Resident, Dies Here Monday

Mrs. Gertrude Harberts, 81, a lifelong resident of Grundy county, died Monday at Countryside Nursing Home in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Gene Straatmeyer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pall bearers were John Kruse, Clarence Kruse, John Graves, Charles Harberts, Edgar Harberts and Orville Harberts. Mrs. Jerry Peters and Mrs. C. P. Dudden were flower attendants. Mrs. Raymond Hinders was organist and Mrs. Jean Straatmeyer and James Kruse were vocalists.

Cars for the funeral were furnished by Farmers Savings Bank, Grundy National Bank, Rouse Motor Company, Schuck & Steffen Insurance Agency, Oddie Wilts and Jerry Schryver.

Mrs. Harberts, the former Gertrude Kruse, was born January 15, 1887, in Grundy county, the daughter of John H. Kruse and Gertie Buskohl.

She was united in marriage to Dick D. Harberts on February 8, 1910. The couple farmed near Holland until 1944, when they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Harberts died April 2, 1960.

Mrs. Harberts was one of the oldest living members of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, LuElla, Mrs. Clifford Green, of Grundy Center, and Lydia, Mrs. James Neessen of Waterloo; one son, Edwin Harberts of rural Holland; and seven grandchildren.

Ferree-Abbas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
