Reka Gronewold Services Held

Reka Gronewold, 88, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, January 26, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with burial in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Holland. Pastor Kevin VerHoeven officiated the service.

Pallbearers were Doug Ross, Mel VanDeest, Glen Hockemeyer, Leland Arends, Vincel Meints and Roger Krull.

A memorial fund is being established.

Reka was born on September 16, 1909, in Grundy County the daughter of Herman and Reka (Lindaman) Meyer.

On August 24, 1928, she was united in marriage to Henry Gronewold in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church by Rev. J. E. Drake. They farmed northeast of Wellsburg until moving to Wellsburg in 1953. She worked as a cook in the Wellsburg School and at Plastronics in Grundy Center. Reka was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; son, Dennis; her parents; 3 brothers, Onno, Eldrick and Herman Meyer; and 3 sisters, Anna Krull, Jo Ann Basness and Tillie Schoorman.

Survivors include her daughter, Ardis Ross and husband Richard of Wellsburg; daughter-in-law, Ellen Gronewold of Iowa Falls; 2 grandchildren, Jani VanDeest and husband Mel of West Des Moines and Doug Ross and wife LeaAnn of Cedar Rapids; and 2 great-grandchildren, Season VanDeest of Iowa City and Madison of Cedar Rapids.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
