Services Held For Lulu Flater

Lulu Flater of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 1996, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes having attained the age of 89 years.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa with the Reverend Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial followed at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery in rural Holland, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Pallbearers were Kenny Buskohl, Larry Flater, Stewart Heikens, Jeff Simms, Jon Van Hauen, and Allen Sykora.

Born September 13, 1906, in Grundy County, Iowa, Lulu was the daughter of Claus and Marie (Klunder) Coners. She was united in marriage to Ben Flater on December 22, 1928, at the Salem Lutheran Church Parsonage in rural Parkersburg. Ben and Lulu farmed in Grundy County until their retirement in 1976. Lulu was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben, in 1977; six brothers, Ralph, Henry, Ben, Bert, Claus, and Al; four sisters, Anna, Marie, Sophie, and Tina; three half-brothers, George, John, and Fred; two half-sisters, Alice and Tillie; and one grandson, David Flater.

Survivors include three sons, Marlyn and wife, Reka, of Waterloo, Iowa; Ivan and wife, Eunice, of Lake City, Minnesota; and Darrel and wife, Mary Ann, of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Mary Lou Grimmius and husband, Bob, of Grundy Center; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the professional arrangements.
