Services Held For Jacob Abels

Funeral services for Jacob Abels were held at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, Iowa on June 11, 1985 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Arthur G. Ames officiated.

Mrs. Tom Simms sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." She was accompanied by Mrs. Larry Stahl, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Joe Junker, Arnold Tjepkes, Bryon Hook, Dennis Hook, Curtis Tjepkes, and Dwayne Sents.

The ushers were Herman Akkerman, John Seehusen, and Art Slifer. Mrs. Joe Junker, Mrs. Duane Gummert, and Mrs. Art Meester were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland, Iowa.

Jacob was born November 12, 1906, in Palermo township, Grundy County, Iowa and passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 1985, at his farm home northwest of Holland.

He attained the age of 78 years, 6 months and 26 days, and was the son of John J. and Carrie Kruse Abels. Jacob grew up on the family farm and continued to live on it and farm until he retired in 1969. After he retired from farming, he and Leola continued to live on the farm. He was married to Leola Miller on March 12, 1941, at the Colfax Center Church parsonage.

He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church since 1941.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Lewis; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude DeNeui; one infant brother and two infant sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Leola; two sons, J. Arthur Abels, serving in the Air Force and stationed at Offutt Air Base and lives at Papillion, NE and James A. Abels, serving in the Air Force and stationed at Frankfurt, Germany; one brother, Harold Abels of Grundy Center; four grandchildren, Stephen, Douglas, Jonathan and Elizabeth.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
