William Veld Services Held

William Veld, age 84, passed away Friday evening, August 13, 1982 at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital, Marshalltown, where he had been a patient for the past week.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 16, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Alice Church of God, Conrad, with Rev. Roy Royster officiating.

Mrs. Delores Ross and Mrs. Avonelle Hertema sang a duet, they were accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy Callaway.

Casket bearers were Scott Veld, John Veld, Paul Veld, Clarence Veld, Eldon Veld and Marvin Veld. Mrs. Russell Katzer and Mrs. Orville Stover were the flower bearers.

Burial was in Alice Cemetery, Conrad, Iowa.

Mr. Veld was born December 16, 1897 in Midwolda, Holland the son of William and Pieterke (Dusseljee) Veld. He came to the U.S. in 1926 and stayed with his brother, Jacob. In 1930 he was employed by the W. T. Rawleigh Co. of Freeport, IL as a translator. In 1936 he moved to a farm NW of Conrad. He was united in marriage to Gladys L. Reinhart on November 27, 1937 at Ridgeway, IA. They farmed until 1980 when they moved to town.

He was an active member of the Alice Church of God, Conrad since 1938, serving as deacon and elder as well as the church treasurer for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; one son, John Veld, Midland, TX; two grandchildren, Scott Veld and Lillian (Mrs. Michael) Schroeder; one great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and five brothers.

Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of arrangements.
