Irene H. Stover died Tuesday, March 5, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. She was 89 years of age at the time of her death. A stroke was attributed to be the cause of death.

Mrs. Stover was the daughter of Charles and Belle Chandler Harris. She was born July 12, 1901, at Lane, Kan. She lived at 114 E. Grundy Street, Conrad, since 1926, having lived north of Conrad prior to that time.

She became the bride of Orange A. (Ory) Stover, Dec. 22, 1923. She received her teaching certificate after attending Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI). She taught country school in Palermo Township, Bockes School #10, from 1920 to 1923 and also did substitute teaching in Conrad. She was a member of the WCSC at the Alice Church of God and the WCTU.

Irene was Conrad's librarian for 38 years, having retired in 1980.

Surviving are four sons: Harris, Vienna, Va., Harley, Conrad, LaVern, Mansfield, Ohio, and Laurence, Marshalltown; one sister, Marian (Mrs. Gerald) Stokes, Council Bluffs, and one brother, Merle Harris, Boone. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Annabelle, who died in infancy, and two brothers.

Services were held Saturday, March 9, at the Alice Church of God with Pastor James Snare officiating.

Music was a duet by Cora Katzer and Mary Ralston and a solo by Denise Bryan. Casket bearers were Kevin Stover, Eric Stover, Allen Stover, Michael Stover, Bill Harris and Verlon Stover. Flower bearers were Mary Bockes and Dorothy McMartin.

Burial was in the Alice Church of God Cemetery with Johnston Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.
