Memorial Services Held In California For Max Shirk

Max E. Shirk died Aug. 26 in the Henry Mayo Hospital, Valencia, CA, after a long illness. Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Lebec Community Church; with the Reverends Charles Virden, Lebec, CA, and Floyd Darling Jr., Santa Monica, CA, formerly of Grundy Center, officiating.

Max was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Grundy county to Asa J. and Birdine Shirk. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1938. He was an Eagle Scout. During World War II he served in the China-Burma Theatre. He received an engineering degree from Iowa State and a law degree from the University of Iowa. Prior to his retirement, Max was a patent attorney for Mattel Toy Co. in Hawthorne, CA.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; three children, Cindy Gabriel of Panorama, CA, Sheri Masi of Santa Paul, CA, and Brian Shirk, Albuquerque, NM; his brother, Keith, of Des Moines, IA; and a sister, Arlene Drexler, of Paris, TN; and four step-children and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and brother Rex.

Max was in Grundy Center in June 1986.
