Fred Katzer Services Held

Fred Katzer, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown since 1989, passed away on September 24 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 29 days of heart failure.

Funeral services were held on September 27 at the Alice Church of God at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. James Snare officiating. Organist was Margaret Kline. Flower bearers were Mary and Lois Katzer. Casket bearers were Roger Clark, Robert Clark, Wayne Katzer, Dale Katzer, Dennis Katzer and Russell Katzer. Burial was in the Alice Cemetery, Conrad. Military Rites were conducted by the Conrad American Legion Post #681.

Fred was born on June 26, 1909 the son of Frank and Lena Katzer Sr. He attended the Palermo Twp. School in rural Conrad and then attended the Conrad High School and graduated in 1928.

Fred was a lifetime resident of rural Conrad prior to IVH where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Conrad American Legion Post #681 and the Grundy County Farm Bureau. He served in the army from 1942 to 1946, WWII, and received a Purple Heart. He attended the Alice Church of God in Conrad.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers.

He is survived by 1 sister, Ida Clark of Cedar Falls; and 2 brothers, Raymond Katzer of Grundy Center, and Joseph Katzer of South Windsor, CT.; and many nieces and nephews.

Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of arrangements.
