James Weaver Green was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, May 10, 1814 and died at his home in Grundy county, Iowa, April 13, 1896, being 81 years 11 months and 3 days old. He was married in 1839 to his surviving wife. In 1843 he was converted and soon united with the church of God and lived a christian life up to his death. As he felt the end approaching he sang the old hymns such as "Vital sparks of heavenly fire," etc. As consciousness began to slip away he said: "Home, going home."
