Susan Brant was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, February 10, 1821, and died at the home of her son, William Freed, in Conrad, September 14, 1900, at nine a.m.

In 1840 she was united in marriage to Adam Freed. To this union were born seven children, five boys and two girls. She came with her husband to Iowa about twenty-seven years ago, settling in Grundy county, where she has since resided.

Of her father's family she leaves three brothers and one sister, all living in Ohio, who together with the children, mourn the loss of a loving mother and fond sister.

Funeral services were held at Alice, Sunday, September 16, attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, Rev. Kepford officiating.
