NEVENHOVEN, ROPS, HULZEBUS

Kobus (Jacobus) Nevenhoven, son of Hilko and Harmka Rops Nevenhoven, was born December 27, 1898, in Beerta, Province of the Groningen, Netherlands and died Friday, November 9, 1984, in Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA, having attained the age of 85 years, 10 months and 15 days.

He came to the United States with his parents as a young child to Aplington, IA, and thereafter spent the rest of his life in the Austinville area. He worked on farms, later went into trucking, hauled cream for the Austinville Creamery, and did custom corn shelling. In the early 1950's he became an employee of Butler County road Department operating a road grader until his retirement.

Mr. Nevenhoven was united in marriage to Martha Hulzebus on November 5, 1932, in the parsonage of the Ackley Christian Reformed Church near Ackley.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Ackley where he served as an elder and deacon. He loved sports and in early years he and his brother were fast pitch pitchers for the Austinville softball team.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; two sons and their wives, Harold & Ellen Nevenhoven of Brooklyn, IA, and Kenneth and Judy Nevenhoven of rural Aplington, two sisters, Mrs. Sena Snyder of Freeport, IL and Grace, Mrs. Sidney Baker of St. Petersburg, Florida; and six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Philip, Brian, Michael, Cory and Kelley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, one brother, John H. Nevenhoven; one sister, Minnie Nevenhoven; and one half-brother, George Smiens.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 12, 1984, at the Ackley Christian Reformed Church at 11 AM with Rev. Floyd DeBoer officiating. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Johnson with soloist Sherman Limburg. Casket bearers were Fred Bolhuis, William Hemmen, Thomas Ubben, Herman Klooster, John Siebenga and Henry Kromminga. Ushers were Alvin Johns and Eppogene Smiens. Interment was in the Church Cemetery. Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the arrangements.
