Elsie Muller, Age 101, Dies

Mrs. Elsie Muller of Grundy Center passed away at 8:22 a.m. Friday, March 21, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on March 24, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor J. Emmett Kelewae of the First Presbyterian Church officiated.

Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.

Mrs. Ernest Blythe was in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal service was held immediately following the funeral service.

Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wellsburg.

Mrs. Muller was born on December 30, 1884, in Wellsburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Huisman. She attained the age of 101 years, two months and 21 days.

She grew up and attended rural school around Wellsburg.

On March 24, 1904, she was united in marriage to Dick Muller in Wellsburg. After their marriage, they farmed in the Wellsburg area. Her husband Dick passed away in 1940.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Ackley, where she lived until she moved to Des Moines. In 1980, she came to Grundy Center to live, and lived in the Senior Housing. On December 2, 1983, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit.

She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. While living in Grundy Center she was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Johanna and Mary, one son, Dick Jr., and by eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one son-in-law, Milo Middleton of Grundy Center, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
