Rites Held For Alfred Harms

Alfred Harms, age 63, of Wellsburg, passed away at the Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center on February 7.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, with the Rev. Richard L. Dowling officiating.

Casket bearers were Darwin Harms, Troy Harms, Darrell Sents, Jerry Freese, Mike Friedel, and Russell Buseman.

Flower ladies were Mrs. Harm Meyer and Mrs. Gary James.

Ushers were Myles Meyer and Lavern Van Heiden.

Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites by Amvet Post #91 of Wellsburg.

Mr. Harms was born on January 5, 1925, in rural Pleasant Valley Township, near Wellsburg, to William and Dora Buss Harms.

He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He attended rural schools, and farmed near Wellsburg, until his health forced him into retirement. He served his country in World War II and was in the United States Army.

He is survived by two brothers, Ted of Wellsburg, and Elmer of Des Moines; three sisters, Lena Freese, and Mary Stahl of Wellsburg, and Mable Janssen of Reinbeck; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ibeling W., Dick, and William, Jr.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
