Irene Harms Dead From Heart Attack

Mrs. Ted (Irene) Harms passed away on Wednesday morning, January 6, 1982, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to a heart attack. She had been taken to the hospital on Monday evening, January 4th, for treatment. She reached the age of 65 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 9, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Church northeast of Wellsburg. Rev. Cranston Gesell officiated at the services.

Two selections were sung by a men's quartet, Darrell Koch, Eldon Harms, Dennis Huisman and Dan Harms. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan, Jr. was organist.

Flower ladies were Mrs. Curtis Harms and Miss Alice Ruter. Pallbearers were Gary Harms, Clifford Harms, Gerald Janssen, Jerry Freese, Edward Flater and Alvin Harms. Burial was in the St. Paul's Evangelical Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Harms was born Irene Kathryn Freese on July 3, 1916 on a farm northwest of Wellsburg, the daughter of Riebke and Effie (Geiken) Freese. She received her education in the rural school in the area. On April 9, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ted Harms at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg by the Rev. F. Albin Heinz. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Dike for four years. They lived on various farms in Grundy county before retiring and moving to Wellsburg in 1978.

Mrs. Harms was a long-time member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg and was baptized there on August 24, 1942.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 brothers, John and Arnold Freese and one sister, Ruth Freese.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Ted Harms of Wellsburg; four sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Ben (Gladys) VanLengen of Steamboat Rock; Arthur Freese of Dike; Mrs. Melvin (Esther) Purvis of Pine River, Minn.; LeRoy Freese of Cedar Falls; Richard Freese of Dike; Mrs. Charles (Ethel) Rhoads of Grundy Center; Mrs. Robert (Juliet) Ugulini of Bondurant; Floyd Freese of Dike and many other relatives and friends.
