Last Rites For Evelyn Harms Held Saturday

Mrs. Evelyn Harms passed away early Wednesday morning, April 10, at her home in Morrison due to an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 65 yeas, 8 months and 27 days.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harms were held Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Officiating pastor was Rev. Kermit J. Rye.

Eldon Harm was soloist who sang two selections. A selection from the Lutheran Book of Worship was sung by the congregation. Mrs. Eldon Harms was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jake B. Lindaman and Mrs. Edward Geerdes.

Casket bearers were Michael Friedel, Brian Williams, Michael Williams, Troy Harms, Keith Zimmerman and Spencer Slifer, grandsons of the deceased. The interment service was held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery.

Arrangements were in charge of the Doyen Funeral Home.

She was born on July 13, 1919, on a farm in Shiloh township, northwest of Wellsburg, the daughter of Weert W. and Albertha (Ross) Riekena. She received her early education in the rural school in the area and then attended Wellsburg high school, graduating with the Class of 1937.

On October 26, 1938, she was married to Ibeling W. Harms at Wellsburg. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Ackley. They lived on several farms in the area and then lived on a farm for 27 years northwest of Wellsburg. Her husband passed away on July 23, 1974. A short time later she moved to Ackley to make her home. Three years ago she moved to Morrison.

Mrs. Harms was a long-time member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one sister, Gladyce, Mrs. Elmer Korte; and a sister and brother in infancy.

Survivors include 5 sons and 4 daughters, (Delah), Mrs. Andrew Friedel of Cedar Falls; James Harms of Edgewood; (Eileen), Mrs. Larry Smith of Morrison; Clifford Harms of Wellsburg; Edna Mae Williams of Waterloo; Gary Harms of Wellsburg; Darwin Harms of Morrison; Daryl Harms of Cedar Falls; Barbara Harms of Grundy Center; 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Raymond (Arlene) Junker of Woodstock, VT; 1 brother, Willard Riekena of Hampton, and many other relatives and friends.
