Dena Harms, 97, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Maple Manor Care Center, in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes.

Dena was born May 10, 1904, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Evert A. and Stena (Sweater) Ross. She was raised on a farm near Wellsburg, and she attended rural country school in Grundy County, Iowa. Dena was united in marriage to Ebe H. Harms on February 12, 1928, in Grundy County, Iowa. After they were married, she and Ebe lived in rural Ackley for seven years. The family then moved to Wellsburg. Dena was a homemaker, and she also worked as a housekeeper for many individuals in the Wellsburg area. Dena's husband Ebe died on August 11, 1948. Dena lived in Wellsburg until going to the nursing home in Aplington, four years ago. Dena was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg. Dena enjoyed crocheting, and also enjoyed making crocheted potholders and giving them as gifts to others.

She is survived by one daughter Marian Everts of Wellsburg, Iowa; one son Elmer Harms and his wife Donna of Delta, Iowa; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ebe in 1948, one son LeRoy; one granddaughter in infancy.

Dena Harms, 97, of Wellsburg, died April 11 at Maple Manor Care Center. Funeral services were April 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial followed at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
