Mrs. Catherine deNeui, 99, Is Buried Saturday

Mrs. Catherine deNeui passed away Thursday morning, October 16, 1975, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 99 years and 9 months. Mrs. deNeui entered the Long Term Care Unit on December 11, 1972, being the first patient admitted there.

She was born on a farm in Colfax Township, southeast of Wellsburg, (now the farmstead of Don Willis) on January 16, 1876, the daughter of Abraham and Foektje (Eertmoed) Jaspers. When she was 2 years old the family moved to a farm in Clay Township, Hardin County, northwest of Wellsburg, (now the farmstead of Ivan Jaspers). She received her education in the rural school in the area. On December 13, 1894, she was united in marriage to Johannes deNeui at the parsonage of the First Christian Reformed Church by the Rev. H. Walkotten. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Shiloh township northwest of Wellsburg. Mr. deNeui passed away on August 28, 1945. In the fall of 1948, she moved to Wellsburg to make her home.

Mrs. deNeui was a charter member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made profession of her faith in Jesus Christ on October 9, 1919. She had been a member of the Willing Workers Society.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, 1 infant son, 1 son, John; 7 brothers, 4 sisters, 1 granddaughter, and 2 great-grandsons.

Those left to mourn her passing are: 2 daughters and 5 sons, (Floy), Mrs. Fred Bergmann of Wellsburg; Abe deNeui of Wellsburg; Jay deNeui of Cedar Falls; (Fannie), Mrs. Henry Kannegieter of Wellsburg; Roy deNeui of Wellsburg; Ernest deNeui of Wellsburg; Herman deNeui of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ben (Bessie) Jaspers of Steamboat Rock and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, October 18, 1975 at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John H. Elenbaas was officiating clergyman. Music was given by Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones who sang a duet. A song was also sung by the congregation. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Virgil Claassen and Mrs. Leland Heinrich. Pall bearers were Roy deNeui, Ernest deNeui, Herman deNeui, Clifford Bergmann, Ronald deNeui, and Jon deNeui. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
