Fred Wubbens Is Called To Eternal Rest

Fred Wubbens passed away Monday evening, December 28, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a lingering illness, and reached the age of 76 years, 3 months and 6 days. He had been a resident of the Care Unit since June 8, 1981

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 31 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church.

Pastor John H. Elenbaas officiated at the service.

Two selections were sung by a men's quartet, Willis Nederhoff, Leland Riebkes, Roger Nederhoff and Paul Koch. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist.

The pallbearers were Kent Campbell, David Byl, Tom Boheman, Rick Dodd, Preston Groote and Doug Boheman.

Interment was held in the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.

He was born on a farm north of Wellsburg, on September 22, 1905, the son of George and Hattie (Hayenga) Wubbens. He attended the rural school in the area. On June 16, 1936, he was married to Verna Weitkamp at the Second Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Wellsburg by Rev. J. C. DeKorne and they made their home in Wellsburg following their marriage and have lived there all of their married life. This union was blessed with two daughters.

Fred worked for many years with the John Ross Road Construction Crew and later for Potgeter Grain Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence Wubbens.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; two daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara) Campbell of New Lenox, Ill., Mrs. Virgil (Karol) Byl of Wellsburg; 4 grandchildren, Kent and Kathy Campbell; David and Diane Byl; one brother and two sisters, John Wubbens of Wellsburg, Mrs. Tena Weber of Ackley, Mrs. Carrie Boekhoff of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
