Mildred Ruth Wilkens, age 79, of Stout, Iowa, was born the daughter of Dan and Alice (Eiklenborg) Andreessen on October 12, 1929, rural Grundy County, Stout, Iowa. She received her education at the Stout Country School, near her home.

On September 12, 1959, Mildred was united in marriage with Alvin Wilkens at the Stout Reformed Church, Stout, Iowa. They made their home and lived their entire married life in Stout. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mildred was an active member of the Reformed Church of Stout. She enjoyed belonging to many different church groups through the years and prior to marriage, but she particularly enjoyed the Churches Ladies Group. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and always looked forward to the holidays they shared together. She especially loved all of the fun times she had with her grandchildren.

Last August 2008, Mildred and Alvin moved together to Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls and later to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

Mildred died August 9, 2009, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Desiree Diekman; two brothers, Harry and Harlan Andreessen; two sisters, Margaret Heeren and Esther Thompson; and three infant siblings.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Alvin Wilkens; one son, David (Marsha) Wilkens of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Diekman of Springville, Iowa; Sandra Wilkens (Bruce Davis) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Sherri (Dave) Petersen of Dike, Iowa, and Deanne (John) Ross of Stout, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Joel, Brent and Daniel Wilkens, Brittany Ross, Jeremy, Crystal and Ashley Diekman, Nicole (J.J.) Floss, and Josh (Josie) Petersen; four great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Diekman, Caden Cavin, Justine Diekman and JaeLynn Shipley; two sisters, Mae Lindaman of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Erma (Charles) Christiansen; two brother-in-laws, Henry Heeren, Parkersburg, Iowa, and Clayton Thompson, Eugene, Oregon; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Andreessen, Glad Brook, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Stout Reformed Church, with burial at the Stout Cemetery, both in Stout, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
