Mrs. Wiley of Conrad Dies at Age of Ninety
Conrad, June 1 – (Special)—Mrs. Minerva Wiley, 90, passed away at her home here Saturday morning about 9:30. Death was due to infirmities and complications caused by her advanced age.
Mrs. Wiley was born Minerva Bartle in New Amsterdam, Ind., Sept. 6, 1845, a daughter of John and Mary Ann Bartle. With the exception of a few years in Missouri, Mrs. Wiley had spent her entire life in Conrad, coming here to a prairie settlement known as “Conrad’s Grove.”
Her mother, Mary Ann Bartle, lived to be 95 years old and a brother, Henry, died several years ago in Texas, leaving Mrs. Wiley the only surviving member of the family.
On Sept. 6, 1927, she was united in marriage to Allen Wiley, a life long neighbor, who preceded her in death in Nov. 1934. Mrs. Wiley celebrated her 90th birthday anniversary with a dinner and open house on Sept. 6, 1935.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock. Burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
