Elmer Schultz was born near La Porte City, Iowa, on December 11th, 1893 and passed away at his home in Conrad, November 7th, 1929, at the age of 35 years, 11 months.

He moved with his parents to the farm 4 ˝ miles southwest of Conrad when he was one year old and has spent the remainder of his life in and near Conrad.

On July 4th, 1913 he was united in marriage with Miss Fern Haggin and to this union were born nine children, one of whom died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his loss the widow and eight children, namely Thomas, age 15 years; Wilma, 14; Marietta, 11; Edna, 8; Raymond, 6; William, 4; Marjorie, 3; and Lois, 2; along with his mother and two brothers, Arthur and Will and four sisters, Lottie, Pearl, Frances and Hattie, all of Liscomb.

Elmer was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was laid to rest in the Conrad cemetery by the side of his father, who passed away in 1924.

Funeral services were held from the home, Saturday, November 9th, at 2 o’clock with Rev. Hillman of the M.E. church in charge. Those acting as pall bearers were: J. A. Wood, B. W. Frederick, Chas. Stepp, Verne Fouch, M. A. Tranbarger, and Harry Mervine, and the flowers were cared for by the Mesdames M. A. Tranbarger, and Verne Fouch.

Relatives from away included Mrs. Sarah Hutson, Mrs. J. D. Haggin, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Arnold and family, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Bixby and daughter Dorothy, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Haggin, of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Haggin, of Union; Mrs. R. A. Schultz, of Sigourney; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hickethier and son Ervin and Mrs. Minnie Fuller of Portage, Wis.

Diphtheria Takes Father Of 8 Children

Elmer Schultz of Conrad Died Last Thursday

Elmer Schultz of Conrad died last Thursday from diphtheria from which he had been a sufferer for four weeks. Two of the children had the disease in a mild form in the beginning before the home was quarantined. The children recovered within a short time but the father's case proved more serious.

Mr. Schultz was 36 years old. He lived in Conrad and vicinity most of his lifetime. He has a wife and eight children. The oldest of the children is 15. Aside from the wife and children the deceased is survived by his mother, two brothers, William and Arthur, four sisters, Pearl, Lottie, Hattie and Francis, all of whom live at Conrad.

A private funeral service was held at the home Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
