Old Time Conrad Resident Dies at Age of 81 Years

Daniel O'Connor, 81, a pioneer resident of Conrad, died Sept. 26, 1937, at St. Anthony’s Home at Dubuque, Iowa. Death was due to the infirmities of old age.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Galena, Ill., May 6th, 1856 and later came to Conrad, being one of the earliest settlers here, where he spent most of his life. He was a well-digger in this vicinity for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his wife who died in May 1926, two children who died in infancy, and a son, Andrew O'Connor, who died just three weeks ago. Surviving him are five children, Mrs. Orin Baker of Conrad, James O'Connor of Montezuma, Mrs. Elizabeth Darrah, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Margaret Hatcher, Proctor, Minn., and Mrs. Charles S. Reinhart of Waterloo. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. C. C. Murphy of Dike.

The body was at the Orin Baker home in Conrad until the funeral services which were held at the Sacred Heart church in Grundy Center at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning with Father Enstringer in charge. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Grundy Center. Pall bearers were James O'Connor, Richard O'Connor, John O'Connor, Harry Baker, Edmund Baker and Orin D. Baker.

Relatives from a distance were Mrs. Elizabeth Darrah, Duluth, Minn., James O'Connor and family of Montezuma; Mrs. Hazel O'Connor and family of Liscomb; O. D. Baker and family of Chicago; Mrs. Mert O'Connor of Waterloo; Mrs. J. T. Murphy, Mrs. C. C. Murphy and Mrs. and Mrs. Will Murphy of Dike; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Connell of Waterloo and John and Mert O'Connor of Reinbeck, as well as numerous friends from nearby towns.
