Marcus Kole Services Held

Marcus J. Kole was born February 7, 1905 in The Netherlands the son of Marinus and Piternella Zuurveld Kole. He passed away Thursday, November 7 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center in Cedar Falls having attained the age of 86 years and 9 months.

Marcus graduated from Ackley High School in 1925 and was then employed as an assistant buttermaker at the Creamery in Austinville. He moved to Dike where he worked for the Dike Creamery as a buttermaker for many years. On August 26, 1933 he was united in marriage to Katie Stubbe at Galena, Illinois. After the Creamery closed, Marcus was employed at the elevator until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jacobus Kole; and one sister, Elizabeth Timmer.

Survivors include his wife Katie; two daughters, Mrs. Harlan (Marlis) Nielsen of Dike, and Mrs. George (Marvel) Hansen of Deer River, MN; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters; Mrs. Harm (Dena) Faber of Iowa Falls, and Nella Schaap of Aplington.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 11 at the United Methodist Church in Dike at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Gary L. Armstrong officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Mrs. John Paige was the organist and played "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". Casket bearers were Jon Hansen, Phil Hansen, Glen Nielsen, Jim Hansen, Mike Squires and Robert Hansen. Ushers were John Mulder and Jack Heritage.

Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
