Cleo Freese Services Held
Cleo L. Freese was born on February 19, 1922 in Grundy Center the daughter of Henrietta Boven Hawn. She passed away early in the morning of October 8 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo from a massive heart attack. She attained the age of 69 years, 7 months and 18 days.
She attended Grundy public schools and graduated from Grundy Center High School. On April 13, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harley Freese in Riverside, California.
After Harley finished the service they moved back to Wellsburg in 1946 and Cleo worked many years at the Wellsburg Hardware Store. Cleo was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and also a member of the American Legion, AmVets, Royal Neighbors and Wellsburg Community Club. She was a willing volunteer when asked to help others and her community.
Funeral services were held on October 11 at 1 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with Rev. Verlyn D. Boone officiating. Marcella Nessen was the organist and Richard Schafer sang "He Touched Me" and "Where The Roses Never Fade." Casket bearers were Ron Hawn, Mike Freese, Luverne Hawn, Paul Vogt, Gordon Akers, and Steve Huisman. Ushers were John Olthoff and Ed Behrends. Burial was in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her mother; one brother Blair Hawn; and two sisters, Blanche Vogt and Vivian Carr.
She is survived by her husband, Harley; three brothers, Blaine Hawn of Minneapolis, MN; Burgess Hawn, of Grundy Center, Harold Hawn of Central City, CA; one sister Burnius Akers, of Grundy Center.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
