Services Held Friday For Richard Purvis
Richard Alan Purvis, 38, of Ankeny, passed away on Sunday, June 14.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny. Rev. Eric Biedermann and Rev. Dean Baer officiated.
Casket bearers were Gregg Cahalan, Al Price, Larry Adams, Kirk Reeder, John Van Skyock and Timothy Schmidt. Honorary bearers were Paul Voss, Gene Spinler, Mark Adams, Paul Purvis and Jerry Reid.
Interment was at 2 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, with military rites being conducted.
Mr. Purvis was born on December 20, 1948, in Grundy Center, the son of Edward and Margaret Purvis. He was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.
He went to school and graduated from Grundy Center High School. He joined the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He continued his education by attending Control Data Institute in Computer Program Training.
Computers have been his area of expertise. His job experience took him to insurance companies in Cedar Rapids and Kansas City and Hubinger's of Keokuk before moving to Ankeny in 1982.
For the past five years he worked for Ankeny Iowa Beer and Liquor Control Department, which is now the State Department of Commerce, in Ankeny.
On April 13, 1971, he was united in marriage to Janine Adams. To them, two daughters were born, Diana and Beth.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny and served often as usher for worship services.
He is survived by his wife and daughters; a mother, Margaret Purvis of Reinbeck; a brother, Paul of Gladbrook and two sisters, Peggy Lamb of Grinnell and Jeannette Voss of Grundy Center.
