Rites Held For Frank Anderson

Frank Anderson of Parkersburg passed away at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Veterans Home.

Funeral services were held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg. Rev. Howard Anderson officiated.

Esther Schwerdtfeger was the organist and Rev. Donald Patet sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "It Is Well With My Soul."

Casketbearers were Lawson Goodwin, Fritz Diers, LeRoy Rieter, Fred Reiter, Ed Hayes and David Abkes.

Interment followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, with full military rites conducted by Harry Peters Post #285, American Legion, Parkersburg.

Mr. Anderson was born on October 13, 1904, in Dike, the son of Samuel David and Jennie Reiter Anderson. He attained the age of 82 years, six months and one day.

His occupation was a carpenter, constructing and repairing homes and farm buildings in Grundy and Butler counties. He moved to Parkersburg in 1934. During WWII, he served in the 101st Battalion of the Seabees of the U.S. Navy. He served in Siapan and Okinawa.

As a young man he was active in the Buck Grove Baptist Church. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Following his retirement in 1983, he became a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Annie Anderson.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Abkes of Parkersburg and Mrs. Josephine Stukenberg of Aplington, and many nieces and nephews.

The Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
