Services Held Monday For Jack Clapsaddle

Jack L. Clapsaddle, 70, formerly of Conrad, died Thursday, May 28, at the Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at the Conrad United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Crow and Rev. Walter R. Davis officiating.

The soloist was LaVonne Watkins and the organist was Carol Altenhein. H. Don Martin did the eulogy.

Serving as casket bearers were H. Don Martin, Paul Simms, Dwayne Garber, Dave Fox, Larry Neal and Leon Mueterthies.

Honorary casket bearers were Clinton Critser, Burl Bone, Leslie Ralston, E. E. Jebousek and Dr. Edward Jacobs.

Dorothy King and Dorthy Beeghly served as flower bearers.

Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery, Conrad.

Mr. Clapsaddle was born on July 3, 1916, in Conrad, the son of Roy L. and Lura M. Ferguson Clapsaddle.

He graduated from Conrad High School, Iowa State University in 1939, receiving the American Society of Civil Engineering Prize for best record in scholarship, character and activities. He was engaged in farming until forming Clapsaddle Engineering Co. in 1959, which later became Clapsaddle-Garber-Associates in 1967, retiring in 1970.

He remained active until his death, having designed several houses in the Hendersonville, NC, area the past years.

He was united in marriage to Loretta Fay Cox, on March 25, 1939, at Hastings, NE. His wife, Loretta, passed away in 1982. He was united in marriage to Julia M. Davis on August 27, 1983, at Hendersonville, NC.

He was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, National Honorary Engineering Society (TAU BETA PI), Knights of St. Patrick, Iowa Engineering Society, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Water Works Association and the Masonic Lodge.

He resided in the Conrad area most of his life, moving to Hilton Head Island, SC, 12 years ago and living there for three years, then moving to the Hendersonville, NC area.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Loretta.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Davis; two children, Jerry L. Clapsaddle of 2215 Martha's Road, Alexandria, VA, and Karen (Mrs. John) Hanson of 119 Inverness, Roanoake, TX; two sisters, Peggy (Mrs. James) Crawford of Cedar Rapids and Lois (Mrs. Floyd) Nelson, Annandale, MN; and by three grandchildren.

The Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
