Funeral Tuesday For Albert M. Ross
Funeral services for Albert M. Ross were held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 1:15 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and later at the Second Christian Reformed church. Rev. K. Tebben was officiating clergyman. Music was by Mrs. Harold Okones and Roger Nederhoff. Mrs. Luray Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Edward Sietsema and Mrs. Grace Fischer. Pallbearers were Homer Ross, Delbert Ross, Luverne Ross, Raymond Huisman, Verne Eberline and Marlin Harms. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Wellsburg Amvet Post 91 and American Legion Post 213.
Albert M. Ross passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 2, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. He had been confined to the Center since April of 1972. He reached the age of 80 years, 11 months and 5 days.
He was born on a farm in German township northwest of Wellsburg on Feb. 27, 1893, the son of Martin A. and Dora (Sievers) Ross. He received his education in the rural school in the area. In December of 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Viola Eberline. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg. They then farmed in the Steamboat Rock area for many years and then moved back to Wellsburg. Mrs. Ross passed away on May 29, 1928. On December 12, 1940, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Van Lengen of Wellsburg by Rev. Raymond H. Haan. They lived in Wellsburg until 1947 at which time they moved to Grundy Center. They moved back to Wellsburg in 1972.
Albert worked for 17 years for the John W. Ross Road Construction and while in Grundy Center was the janitor in the court house for four years and also was employed at the Grundy Food Market.
During World War I he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.
Those who preceded him were: his first wife, his parents, and four brothers who died in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Jennie; two daughters and one son: (Vivolyn) Mrs. Bastian Van Elderen of Amman, Jordan; (Gwendolyn) Mrs. Virgil Groninga of Wellsburg; Russell Ross of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one step-daughter (Ruth) Mrs. Roy Reints of Washburn; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchidlren; five brothers and one sister: Sam M. Ross of Wellsburg, William M. Ross of Grundy Center, Joe M. Ross of Grundy Center, (Nettie) Mrs. Jerry Huisman of Grundy Center, Gratus M. Ross of Wellsburg, Martin M. Ross of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
