Mrs. Dirks Buried At Holland And Miss Schmidt At The Colfax Center Cemetery
Mrs. Hendertje Dirks, nee Hinderks, aged seventy-nine years passed away at her home in Holland, Iowa, on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:25 p.m., the cause of her death being given as Bright's disease. Mrs. Dirks was born on April 6, 1861, at Emden, Germany, and came to America at the age of twenty-seven years, her mother passing away while on the high seas.
Shortly after her arrival in America she was united in marriage with Henry Dirks, who passed away in 1935. They lived on a farm in Lincoln township for three years then moved to Holland engaged in the lumber business, and where Mrs. Dirks made her home for fifty-two years. Funeral services were held from the Holland Lutheran church, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Freytag. She leaves behind two daughters, Mrs. Annie Kieweit, Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Bessie, at home; and two sons, William and Henry Dirks, both of the Holland vicinity.
Interment was made in the cemetery east of Holland.
