Henry G. Riant Dies At Home In Waterloo

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the O'Keefe and Towne Chapel for Henry G. Riant, 83, early settler of Hardin county, Iowa, who died early Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Henry G. Kuehn, 420 Wellington Street, after an illness of five days with pneumonia and heart disease.

Rev. Charles Wesley Harrop, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Floyd, Iowa, will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

A resident of Waterloo for 25 years, Mr. Riant had lived most of his life between Eldora and Hubbard, and later near Wellsburg, Iowa. He was a blacksmith in Wellsburg for a number of years prior to his removal to Waterloo. He was a former member of the I.O.O.F., and attended Linden Methodist Episcopal church here.

His wife, the former Mary Piel, whom he married in 1874 at Eldora, died 10 years ago. A brother and sister also preceded him in death.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kuehn, Mrs. Charles Marquart, 1025 Beech Street; Mrs. Frank Walters, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Bertha Winters, Navarre, Kan., and two sons, Owen Riant, Columbus, Wis., and Fred Riant, 902 Lafayette Street.
