Funeral Services For Henry Gelder Conducted Thursday
Funeral services for Henry Gelder, who passed away Monday, February 4, in Eldora, were held Thusday, Feb. 7, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with the G. C. Poppen officiating. Interment was in the East Friesland Presbyterian cemetery.
Music was furnished by a men's quartet composed of Irwin Abels, Elmer Finke, Harold Lindaman, and Richard Ross, accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Mrs. Bryan Huisman and Mrs. Alfred Krull were flower attendants.
George Seehusen, John Seehusen, George Gerdes, Ben Miller, Henry D. Gelder and Dick D. Gelder were pallbearers.
Henry Gelder, son of Dick and Lemka Gelder, was born November 3, 1877, in Germany. He came to the United States in 1902 and settled in the Ackley vicinity. He was married to Anna Smitt the same year. To this union were born three sons, one of whom died in infancy, Krene, who died in 1932, and Dick, who survives, living in Mason City.
His wife preceded him in death August 31, 1954. For some time Mr. Gelder had been in a nursing home in Eldora.
Besides his son, Mr. Gelder is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Annie Gerdes of Cleves, Mrs. Jasper Burma of Rice, Minnesota and Mrs. Dena Seehusen of Fern; and one brother, Dick, of Wellsburg. Two sisters, Mrs. Peter Smitt and Mrs. George Fekkers, preceded him in death.
