Mrs. Anna Pleis Galpin was born at Felsem, Germany, Feb. 3, 1856. At the age of 13 years on Sunday before she emigrated to Illinois, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church of her native country. After living with her sisters for four years in Illinois she moved to Grundy county, Iowa. One year later 1874 she was united in holy matrimony to Eugene S. Galpin by Rev. Wm. Debenhann the M. E. minister in this community at that time. Mr. and Mrs. Galpin lived together on the Galpin homestead until August 1, 1903, when her husband was called to the great beyond. Mrs. Galpin continued to live on the farm with her children until Dec. 6, 1917, when she went to join those gone before. Leaving to mourn her early demise, two sisters and one brother in Nebraska, also five children, namely Bertha L., Walter R., Nellie M., Daniel A. and Carrie J. besides seven grandchildren. Two of her children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Galpin has been a resident of Pleasant Valley for 44 years continually on the same farm where she died. She has been a good neighbor kind mother and has made this world better for having lived in it. Funeral services were held at the family home Monday noon, conducted by the Congregational minister of Parkersburg, assisted by the M. E. choir. She was buried by the side of her husband at Greenwood cemetery.
